A superb 16thc Brass Candlestick known as a Capstan or Bell Base from North West Europe, this fine example still shows signs of the lathe "chatter" underneath the large Bell Base, where it has been turned; the short socket with it's vertically cut ejection aperture, terminates onto a large drip pan, the socket has been fixed by "peening" the end over to join the base.
Low Countries. C 1560-80.
