A very early brass chafing dish from the late 17thc which would have been used to bring hot food to the table, heated up by charcoal...this excellent example is one of the earliest I have seen and is typical of the 17thc with early copper rolled rivets, the same as they used on English Warming Pans of the period...it has a turned bobbin fruitwood handle, ring turned decoration to the top and base and is in very nice condition.

English. C1660-80.
