This form of baluster-knopped candlestick is typical of the type you find in France and the Low Countries in the 17thc...it is heavily cast in brass and under the base it has been left, so you can see the marks of the sand mould it was cast in....the shaft is single moulded and peened over to join the hexagonal base....it has a single round aperture in its socket, which is very common in Continental sticks.....overall in excellent condition.
