I just cannot resist early oak joyned stools....and this one is certainly one for the collector....it dates from around the first half of the 17thc coming from the reign of Charles 1 and has a simple lunette form of carving on the rails which is repeated on all sides under the seat....the top has a wide "thumb nail" moulding around the edge, which is typical of this period and it stands on well turned inverted baluster shape legs , which are united by simple plain stretchers.....it has lost a little in height , from standing on a damp stone floor, but this has made it a very useful height to go next to a sofa or chair as a wine or lamp table...excellent colour and natural patina.
