This handsome dining table was from a private house, having been in the refectory for over 25 years....it was made in the reign of Charles 1 and is in excellent original condition....the size of this table makes it a very desirable piece as it is only 75.50" (192cms) in length...it was also known as a "dias" table, where it would have been elevated slightly at the end of the hall, so the master of the house could dine at this table with his family and would have been able to look down on his guests dining at other long tables,....it is carved on the front side only with a half floral leaf lunette design , very popular at this time which is repeated all the way along and the back of the table is just plain as this was not on show, it stands on four large gun barrel turned legs and they are joined by the original oak stretchers...in excellent condition and with a very good colour.
