A superb early Oak carving in bold relief of the "Green Man"...the Green Man is an ancient character, believed to have originated before Christianity and who was adopted by carvers in the Medieval period and right through to modern day, being found in many Churches and Cathedrals of today...he stands for humanity's deep love of nature...with trees and the woods and for the cycle of re-birth and renewal.....an example of this is the end of the long dark winter and the return of Spring....very apt for now..... the carving is in excellent condition with a natural patination so liked by collectors...
