New ownership for NEC Fair and then a new record for sales.!

A fresh new look to the NEC July Antiques Fair taking place at Birmingham last week, heralded in a new owner and his dynamic team....Dan Leyland and his business partner Marisa Beckman, have bought the Antiques Fair under the new name of MaD Events (Marisa and Dan).... together with the lovely Pippa and Felicity they put together a great looking fair, that was well run, a pleasure to attend and resulted in myself having a record fair since I have been in section 2, which is six years....

The fair looked fresh with the addition of better food bars, a better layout and easy parking for all exhibitors....why did it take so long ( I have been doing the NEC Fair for 22 years)... to improve...!

The first day started with a healthy queue and plenty of early sales..... I sold a good 18thc Prattware Tea Caddy, seven pieces of treen, a stone head, a Kashkai runner and a lovely 19thc Chestnut Settle....I didn't stop from 11am until 3pm,...not complaining as it does boost your confidence after the previous fair disaster where no one wanted to buy..!

Day two, always renowned for being quiet...didn't disappoint as I had two sales,...a good set of Letter Scales and boxwood Lemon Squeezer....

Day three started busy again with the sale of a "starback" windsor chair..(good to see furniture selling)...a very nice small 18thc oak corner cupboard (and people say they don't sell...I could have sold it six times.."), three pieces of treen and two pieces of metalware...

Last day and the sales kept coming with the sale of six 18thc delft plates, a very good "faceted"  knop stem ale glass, three pieces of metalware and to finish a very rare "architects" brass and lead inkwell,...dated 1769....and I didn't manage to get a picture of it...!

So well done NEC team, a great fair....and thank you to my many lovely customers who made a "poor" country furniture antique dealer, feel very happy...

Mark.
