A rare survival from the early apothecary (someone who prepares compounds for medicinal use) is this beautifully turned pestle..... I usually only find the mortar, so it is really nice to find an early pestle....this one is turned from English fruitwood.... it is cherrywood as you can see the desirable claret colour that you find in cherry.... it has very attractive "ring" turned decoration all the way down the handle and onto the main body....in very good condition with an excellent colour.
