The Sun shines on a busy August Newark...

The sun came out for a busy first day at the August Newark Fair...lots of overseas buyers taking advantage of the weak pound....I sold quite a lot of pottery, the first sale was the large impressive Doulton Harvest Jug, which went to the trade...followed by a pair of Stafforshire Figures of the "seasons" and an early Prattware Dog...then it was the turn of the treen to sell, surprisingly to a gentleman from Tokyo who bought three pieces, a Platter, a Ginger jar and a Mahogany Bowl...

.I also bought very well,.....four good pieces of Treen, a 17thc Lignum Mortar, a Quaich, a Beech Dice Shaker and an unusual Nutmeg Grater ....one of my most pleasing purchases was a Charles 1 Brass & Iron Warming Pan in lovely condition, decorated with Acorns...I can't remember when I bought the last one and a very good Copper Straining Ladle from the 18thc....both lovely quality items.

The second day started well with sales of treen, the 17thc Mortar, Quaich and a Cutlery tray in Oak from the 18thc....and the fair finished with my most pleasing sale of a 17thc William & Mary Oak Gateleg Table to another Japanese couple...it took me 45 minutes to persuade them that they couldn't live without it and clenched the sale by telling the nice lady it would make a lovely lamp table in the corner of her japanese house....she was thrilled as she hadn't thought of that...!

Off to the east coast for the bank holiday Southwold Antiques Fair...I hope I might get a chance to have a paddle....if I can break the ice in the north sea....!

See you at an antiques fair near you soon...
