A rare 19thc "Communial" Snuff Box, made from Oak in the form of a Horses Head...it was originally screwed to the top of a Tavern bar (note the holes in the base) and the lid is hinged to reveal when open, the bars which represent the Horse's feed Manger, where you take your pinch of Snuff from...it has a wonderful colour as you would expect after many years of use.

Provenance:   Dealers collection and the Snuff Box is reputed to come from a Newmarket Tavern.
