A fine example of a late 18thc wrought iron candle holder / flambeau....a flambeau burns tallow-soaked plant fibre as opposed to a peerman which is for clamping and burning a splint of wood , such as fir.....but in this case if you look at the ring and spring at the end of the arm you will see it is more suitable for burning a flambeau , as a splint will not burn in a vertical position... the scrolled feet and profile are a continental feature found mostly in France.
French C1780-C1800.
